Leca is a design research initiative. Its aim being to create an inclusive, autism friendly learning environment and determine its role in the perceptual, cognitive and behavioural development of children with autism.

To achieve this, Leca designed workspace prototypes for use during a Social Skills Programme in the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Studies at Leiden University, Holland.

Following a grant awarded by The Three Guineas Trust and administered by Research Autism, it carried out empirical trials of revised workspaces, now referred to as Lecapods, in two UK schools. Appraisal of these initiatives resulted in Lecaspace, an integrated, inclusive matrix of work and recreation installations and integral learning resources.

In 2013, Leca secured Registered Design Rights on 31 of its innovations, including five trade marks.

In 2014, the Leca Project achieved CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) status. This model was chosen to emphasise its commitment to continuing research and development within a framework of education and social need.

The Leca Project invites enquiries from individuals and organisations who share its aim and objectives and who may wish to contribute to its development through funding, materials or manufacture.
